Recently I had cause to sit down and story-board out my ideal shopping cart. A cart that would allow me lots of flexibility and could be easily edited. So, easily edited in fact, that someone with absolutely no HTML knowledge could run it and edit it once it was installed for them.

Updating Your Catalog. The eCommerce Shopping Cart module lets you browse through your product catalog exactly as it appears on the public web site. You can create the catalog templates in any HTML authoring tool and integrate with the dynamic database, if you like. Or use, existing templates. Or, hire us to do it for you. You hit edit when you find the page you want. The shopping cart module activates a visual editor for the page, highlighting changeable areas, such as price, product images, and product descriptions. You can change the price right there in the editor without making a trip to the database ... that's huge! You point and click to make the changes you want and the shopping cart module automatically stores them in the dynamic database. The end result: Customers always see your best stock at current pricing.
Creating Customer Accounts. eCommerce Shopping Cart Manager module lets you ask - or require - customers to set up an account with a username and password. eCommerce Manager recalls their information (excluding credit card number) when they return to the site, enabling them to check out more quickly. You get to the ability to review all orders by a particular customer in an easily searchable, sortable list - information you can use to target specific customers and reward them with special offers or discounts.
Processing Credit Card Payments in Real-Time. You can instantly confirm payment and save time by eliminating manual handling and unpaid orders. You just fill in your payment-processing, company-supplied username and password and eCommerce Manger will connect automatically to process customer credit cards in real time. In the event of a bad credit card number, the system records the order as failed in the administrative area. This lets you follow up with the customer if you want. An Internet-enabled credit card merchant account is required for real-time credit card processing.
Automatic Tax and Shipping Calculations. Shopping Cart eCommerce Manager lets you specify and calculate a tax percentage and whether to charge tax only for a particular state or states. You also get powerful, easy-to-use features for setting up shipping calculations. You can choose from predefined shipping service levels from multiple carriers and the system will automatically calculate shipping costs in real time through an XML feed. Or you can set up your own shipping calculations, using a base fee, fee per item, or fee per unit weight as desired. eCommerce Manager shows the customer shipping costs to the customer as soon as enough information is provided to calculate them.
Offering Discounts and Promotions. You can use eCommerce Manager to set up discount codes and associated discount percentages with no time limit or for specific periods. Customers can review the shopping cart contents, enter a code and eCommerce Manager will automatically recalculate prices with the discount applied. You can also specify a discounted price for an individual product, and either offer it to all customers or only to those who buy a certain number of products.
Managing Resellers and Manufacturers. Shopping Cart eCommerce Manager lets you track manufacturers, enabling you to provide links to their websites for instructions or more information. You can also assign resellers or affiliates a code so you can track referrals. In both cases, you can monitor performance and improve information exchange.
Inventory Tracking. As an option, Shopping Cart eCommerce Manager also lets you enable inventory tracking at either basic or advanced levels. Basic inventory tracking allows you to simply specify whether an item is in or out of stock. Advanced inventory tracking lets you specify a number of items initially in stock, and keeps track of the number of items successfully purchased for that item.
